be attributed to a faulty hose. Or if your pump begins to whine or sound rough. (bearings are going out) Or if you've bought a used pump and want peace of mind that it's in good shape before installing it. Half the problem with power steering leak issues is determining where the leak is coming from in the first place. To accurately do that, you have to clean the pump and hoses, the alternator that sits under the pump, and the surrounding area thoroughly. This involves removing intake pipes, etc. just to get to the area. Then you still have to clean from top and bottom to reach everything. Put everything back together. Have a helper start the car and turn the wheels while you are under it so you can try to see where the leak begins. Tedious and time consuming. Just like the job of removing and replacing it. :-) So, having peace of mind that your used pump is good is well worth it so you don't have to do the job over again.
